Cannes Film Festival

HERE’S the lineup for the Cannes film festival thanks to AintitCoolnews.com.  Below you’ll find some films showing at Cannes that you might want to take a look at, though I’ve never heard of the majority of these films/filmmakers so my bias is apparent:

UP U.S., Pete Docter, Bob Peterson

ANTICHRIST, Denmark-Sweden-France-Italy, Lars von Trier

ENTER THE VOID, France, Gaspar Noe

LES HERBES FOLLES, France-Italy, Alain Resnais

THE WHITE RIBBON, Germany-Austria-France, Michael Haneke

THIRST, South Korea-U.S., Park Chan-wook

BROKEN EMBRACES, Spain, Pedro Almodovar

INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, U.S., Quentin Tarantino

THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS, Canada-France, Terry Gilliam

AGORA, Spain, Alejandro Amenabar

  1. Allow me to toot the horn of a countryman, Lars von Trier – although you have almost definitely heard of him, perhaps seen a movie or two of his – personally I’d recommend The Idiots and Dogville the most, although many people prefer Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark (for which he won the Palme d’Or some years ago). I really think Antichrist will be interesting, and the fact alone that a thriller is in the main competition should make it worth watching – but obviously almost any main competition entry will be that. I’m pretty psyched about Tarantino’s Basterds obviously, and also Gilliam’s! Wish I could go, if you are, come pick me up in Denmark in your private jet, ok?

All the best, Rick from Denmark.
