In order to dust off any rust I might have before Vegas at the end of the month and the WSOP, and because I have a finite amount of money online, I’ve been managing my bankroll differently than I have in the past and playing lower stakes. My plan is to aggressively move up in stakes as I hit certain plateaus (for more details join DeucesCracked and watch my upcoming video series) and expand my bankroll to different sites.
I haven’t been able to put in a ton of hands, but I’m cruising so far. Here are my last ~12k hands at 5/10 and 10/20NL:
Unfortunately I got 3 outed with 1 card to come for a ~20k pot at 25/50 (can’t find the HH but had AT in a rred pot on TT9x vs KT), so my quick move upwards hit a little bit of an obstacle. That’s fine.
Some of you are thinking: WTF, 5/10? 10/20? You used to crush 200/400! KRANTZ busto?!? No, I am not busto. But here are the reasons you don’t see me at 500/1k anymore:
1- I took a huge hit at the end of last year playing in those games and running really, really badly over a small number of hands. If I wanted to keep playing those stakes I would have had to redeposit a huge chunk of money online and/or risk jeopardizing my quality of life. That’s something I might have done when I was 21 but at 25 (Happy Birthday to ME), I’m not interested.
2- Hand in hand with item 1 – the variance is really high up there. And I’m not at all good enough at PLO yet to play HA, which is what runs on a regular basis. Multi-million dollar downswings aren’t fun. Two of those are more than enough for me.
3- I’ve been keeping myself busy with other projects. Some I can’t talk about just yet, others more obvious (DeucesCracked). At the end of the day, the answer is simple common sense – these other projects will make me more money than poker with no variance.
4- I’m addicted to really expensive designer drugs. They cost a ton of money. If I put that money online, I’m fucked.
Now with that said, I will play higher stakes and nosebleeds again this summer. You can count on that. And as most of you know, I’m no fucking bum hunter.
