I was writing a long post about how badly GL misused Ewan McGregor in the prequels (Actually, he pretty much wasted potential across the board, from Liam Neeson to Natalie Portman to Hayden Christensen (who has actually turned in good performances in other movies)) but I got so frustrated that I stopped. Instead, I link you to this Phantom Menace review, courtesy of Admo (warning, if you’re not into Star Wars you don’t want to click).
All I know is that whoever creates the next sci-fi pop culture phenomenon (as an aside, can’t wait to see Avatar (it won’t be close to a sci-fi phenomenon but it will change the playing field in terms of what can be done in the future)) has a cautionary tale to learn from. If only GL took some writing classes.
PS The blog is going through some aesthetic and functional changes (now you can follow me on Twitter! And DeucesCracked on Facebook!). I’ve gone back and forth about moving over to the DC blog platform but at the end of the day, it makes more sense for me to stay here.
Also – most of you probably subscribe via RSS, but peep the new (old) picture in the sidebar – anyone know where I can get another pair of specs like that online? I lost those bad mammajammas when I moved
edit: after watching/reading some more about Avatar, I’m revising “won’t be close to being a sci-fi phenomenon” to won’t have a good plot but will be really important to how great storytellers will be able to tell stories in the future.

Diggin the new look.
yo krantz-
those style glasses are hugely popular in Korea haha

Oh man… That link was 70 minutes of pure epicness. I already thought the Phantom Menace was total shit. But there were moments/plot points/goofs that I totally missed the times I have seen it.
“anyone know where I can get another pair of specs like that online? I lost those bad mammajammas when I moved”
In the Marine Corps, they call these things BCGs…birth control goggles. Try looking that up on ebay.
That DC pop-up is annoying when you are allready a member. Only a small minus on a great blog though.
wow ty J for linking the phantom menace review.
this guy is just awesome. ive spent the last hours to watch as many of his reviews as i could find and every single one was godlike. cool stuff.
everything in the phantom menace review is so true. i was never a fan of it in the 1st place but after watching these 7 reviews, holy shit this movie blows and i cant believe the maker of the original star wars trilogy made this pile of shit
I saw Avatar tonight. It’s the first time I’ve been wowed by special effects in forever. It’s beautiful. I didn’t really care about the characters though.
Jackson – the pop-up is just an experiment. It’s down for now, I MIGHT be bringing it back, but it only appears the first time you visit, so either way you’ll never see it again.
I STILL haven’t seen Avatar. IMAX is sold out, every single day. Going to try again tomorrow.
GL will be on The Daily Show tonight. Not sure why….
